How many times have you wanted a juicy burger (of any variety, there is no judging here) but did not have a bun to complete the meal? This happens in our household all the time. Fortunately, this recipe is going to swoop in and save the day! These buns are so fluffy and light, yet robust enough to hold up to a decent burger, and come together in just 30 minutes!
Away we go! Start by dissolving some yeast into warm water. The water needs to be 110-115 degrees F to activate the yeast. *Hot tip: if you keep your yeast in the fridge, measure out the amount you need and let it come to room temperature before you start your dough. Once the yeast is dissolved, add in oil and sugar and let this mixture sit for about 5 minutes to allow the yeast to bloom.
Next, add in an egg, some salt, and enough flour to form a soft dough. Turn this out onto a floured surface and knead for about 3-5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Come on guys, is there anything better than working with dough? Honestly, I love it so much.
Here is a really important step in this bread that differs from most yeast breads: DO NOT LET THE DOUGH RISE AT THIS STAGE. I repeat, do not let your dough rise. Instead, split your dough into 8 pieces and shape into balls.
Shaping into perfect buns:
- Start with your piece of dough and knead/ stretch it a few times.
- Place on floured surface and pull all edges to the middle and tack them down.
- Flip the bun over so the seam is face down and using both hands cup the bun and turn it a few times so that all sides are even.
- Voila! You have made the perfect bun!
Now, place your buns 2-3 inches apart on a prepared baking sheet and cover and let rise for 15 minutes in a warm place. When you are ready to bake preheat oven to 425 degrees F and bake for 8-12 minutes until the buns are nice and golden brown.
Seriously, your family is going to be so impressed. I am impressed. You are awesome!
